The Montessori classroom is purposefully structured and utilizes specific, unique materials. Parents are encouraged to consider the three-year cycle at each level when considering enrollment. Concepts and skills are isolated and built upon progressively over the course of these cycles, making entering the program as early as possible and completing the 3-year cycle at any level extremely important. There is limited space in all levels, with priority given to siblings of current students and Montessori transfers. While rare, on occasion, elementary and older primary students with no prior Montessori experience may be considered for admission if space permits. For more information about admission to our adolescent program, please visit our Programs section.

In late winter/early spring, current students are re-enrolled. Once space availability is determined, siblings and Montessori transfers are enrolled. In late spring, remaining applicants in the wait-pool will be notified of enrollment decisions. If space is available, admission will be considered on a rolling basis until the start of the school year. Mid-year transfers are occasionally considered.

Step 1: Inquiry, Discussion & Tour

Interested parents are invited to make an appointment to speak with the Head of School about the Montessori method of education, whether SMS may be a good fit for your child and your family, and to schedule a time to tour the school. Get started today!

Step 2: Observation

Upon completion of the admissions application, parents are invited to spend some time observing in a classroom. Prospective students will meet a teacher and may spend a school day in the classroom. This helps ensure that the student, the family, and the teachers agree that SMS is a mutually beneficial environment.

Step 3: Student Visit

If it has been determined that a space is available for a student, then we will make arrangements for them to meet a teacher. This is an opportunity for the teacher to evaluate how a student navigates the classroom environment and for the student to meet potential classmates, learn about expectations, and to ask any questions.

Step 4: Consideration & Decision

Admission decisions are made after a review of the student’s application and documentation, staff recommendations, and whether SMS is the right school for the student and the family.

Step 5: Enrollment

Contracts are offered to the prospective family. If accepted, we discuss the student’s enrollment details, set up an account in our tuition management system, and collect the $250 deposit to secure enrollment.

Staunton Montessori School offers limited financial assistance; applications may be requested at the time admission is offered. Please contact the office at 540-949-5020 for additional information.
