Montessori Mornings is designed for parents/caregivers and children ages 18 months to 3 years. This class meets the needs of the toddler with an inviting, challenging environment to encourage independence, free-play, social interactions, and exploration.
Children’s natural learning cycle of play, discovery, repetition and mastery is the heart of this program. Every Wednesday or Thursday we will welcome you and your child into our prepared toddler space – full of engaging activities and opportunities to learn.
For the next 90 minutes, children will be invited to play and explore with the materials provided. We have familiar materials like puzzles, blocks, books, and also specialized Montessori toddler activities like flower arranging, washing windows, and gluing. A simple snack time will be provided, as an opportunity to practice grace and courtesy manners and feeding oneself. The group is starts and ends with a short circle time of familiar songs, hand rhymes, and story sharing.
Our Montessori Morning playgroup is designed upon the work of Maria Montessori (Montessori Education), Magda Gerber (Resources for Infant Educarers), and Emmi Pikler, with the realities of early parenthood in mind.
Like all our Montessori programs at SMS, we keep our focus on the whole child. Activities are not only fun- they build lifelong skills such as curiosity, determination, independence, compassion, and respect.
Parents/caregivers will learn tools for supporting their toddler’s development, social interactions, and exploration both in he classroom and at home. Our classroom teacher, Karen Wilson, will model respectful redirection, conflict mediation, and how to offer help to children of this age.
We use the book “The Montessori Toddler” by Simone Davies as a resource for our parent/caregiver discussions.
Our Spring Semester class registration is closed.
Families who complete a semester of classes are eligible for priority enrollment status in Staunton Montessori’s PK3 Primary Program the following admissions cycle. First priority enrollment in Montessori Mornings is given to families currently enrolled in Montessori Mornings. Children must be walking/taking steps to enroll, and infant siblings are welcome.
