Montessori Mornings

Infant and Toddler Playgroup

We call our Montessori Morning playgroup the Fledgling community. We offer a weekly toddler playgroup for children 18 months to 3 years. In the fall of 2026, we will also begin an infant playgroup.

Our Montessori Mornings playgroups are inspired by the work of Maria Montessori (Montessori Education), Magda Gerber (
Resources for Infant Educarers),and Emmi Pikler, with the realities of early parenthood in mind.

A child wearing a floral dress is reaching for yellow wood geometric shapes on a wooden table next to an adult's hand resting on a yellow cloth with more yellow wood shapes. The table is set on a rug and a carpet.

Like all our Montessori programs at SMS, we keep our focus on the whole child. Our prepared environment is designed to meet the needs and sensitivities of the young child. Activities are not only fun-they build lifelong skills such as curiosity, determination, independence, compassion, and respect.

Parents/caregivers will learn tools for supporting their infant and toddler’s development, social interactions, and exploration both in the classroom and at home. Our Montessori Morning Guide models respectful redirection, conflict mediation, and how to offer help to children of this age.
