Kindness
At SMS, kindness is a daily practice rooted in the Montessori belief that respectful relationships are foundational to learning. We model empathy, clear communication, and conflict resolution to help children internalize these values and apply them in their lives. Kindness is expected from all members of our community—students, staff, and families—and creates a culture of trust, belonging, and safety.
Community
We believe education happens within a community—not apart from it. Each classroom functions as a micro-community where respect, collaboration, and shared responsibility guide daily life. We honor every family's story, foster strong partnerships, and teach children that they are part of a broader human family. Our school is both a place of belonging and a launchpad for global citizenship.
Child-First
Our approach begins with the child. We observe, listen, and adapt to support each student’s unique development. Learning environments are prepared to foster independence, joy, and trust. A child-first mindset means prioritizing emotional safety and honoring each child’s voice, pace, and potential in all decisions—academic, relational, and structural.
Diversity, Equity, Justice & Inclusion (DEJI)
We affirm the dignity and worth of every person and welcome all identities and family structures. Grounded in Montessori principles of peace and global citizenship, we work to counter systemic inequities through inclusive curriculum, restorative practices, and a commitment to justice. Our aim is a compassionate school community where every learner is seen, valued, and empowered.
